General Jury Duty Information
Length of Service
Petit Jurors:
- Your duty is one day or one trial.
- If selected, most trials last 2–3 days, allowing you to make a meaningful contribution with minimal disruption to your week.
Grand Jurors:
- Service lasts 6 months.
- You will be required to meet approximately every other Friday.
Typical Hours:
- 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a lunch break from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
- Note: Hours may vary depending on the judge and the specific case.
Lunch Options:
- You may bring your own lunch. Microwaves are available on the LL.
- A map of local dining options is available in the jury assembly room, with many choices within walking distance.
Overnight Stays:
- Overnight stays are highly unlikely.
- In rare instances, jurors may be sequestered, meaning they stay away from home during the trial—but this is not common practice.
Compensation
- You will receive $25 per day for your service.
- Payment will be issued by check, which includes an attached document verifying your attendance.
- This serves as written proof for your employer or anyone else who may require confirmation.
Child Care
- Child care is not provided.
- Please note that The Kids’ Place is not available for juror use.
